Cryptic Poaching of Endangered Mexican Gray Wolves Exposed

The Rewilding Institute’s carnivore conservation biologist, Dave Parsons, joined a research team at the University of Wisconsin’s Carnivore Coexistence Laboratory to investigate the effect of policy changes on human caused mortality of Mexican gray wolves. Their results were contrary to the common, but now discredited belief, that policies with permissive provisions for killing wolves will increase human tolerance for wolves and decrease illegal killing. The full paper can be found at https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/pdf/10.1098/rsos.200330 and a video presentation of the results can be viewed below.
